Marriage Counseling Services

At The Islamic Center of Portland – Masjed As-Saber, we are dedicated to supporting the well-being of our community members in every aspect of life, including marriage. We understand that marital issues can arise, and it is our goal to provide support and guidance to help couples overcome these challenges in a healthy, Islamic way.

We are pleased to offer marriage counseling services to couples who may be facing difficulties in their relationship. Our counseling is led by *Brother Mashur Hassan, a qualified marriage counselor who has extensive experience in helping couples resolve conflicts. His approach is rooted in **Islamic teachings* and values, ensuring that all advice and solutions provided are in line with Islamic principles.

How Our Counseling Works

• Islamic Perspective: All sessions are conducted with an Islamic framework, focusing on maintaining a harmonious relationship that upholds the values of compassion, patience, and understanding, as outlined in the Quran and Sunnah. In this regard, we are reminded by the following verses from the Quran:

وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your hearts: verily in that are signs for those who reflect.” (Quran, 30:21)

• Confidential & Supportive Environment: Couples will have the opportunity to discuss their issues openly and confidentially with Brother Mashur Hassan. The aim is to help couples find common ground, improve communication, and strengthen their bond, all while adhering to Islamic ethics and guidance.

وعنه قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم‏: ‏ “أكمل المؤمنين إيماناً أحسنهم خلقاً وخياركم خياركم لنسائهم”‏.‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه الترمذي وقال‏: ‏ حديث حسن صحيح‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The most perfect man in his faith among the believers is the one whose behaviour is most excellent; and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives.” [At- Tirmidhi, who classified it as Hadith Hasan Sahih].

• Free of Charge: This service is offered free of charge and is available exclusively to members of the community. We believe that financial barriers should not prevent anyone from receiving the support they need to build a strong, healthy marriage.

• Available to Community Members: This service is only available to members of the Islamic Center of Portland. We encourage all couples who are experiencing difficulties to take advantage of this invaluable resource
• Session Availability: Please note that sessions are subject to the availability of Brother Mashur Hassan. We recommend contacting Masjed Assaber in advance to schedule an appointment.
