Nikah Services at Masjed As-Saber

Masjed As-Saber provides marriage services for Muslim brothers and sisters according to Islamic guidelines. Below are the procedures and policies for performing a nikah (marriage) at our masjid.

Procedure:

  1. Contact the Imam: The groom must visit the Islamic Center of Portland – Masjed As-Saber and speak to the imam in person.
  2. Pre-Marriage Interview: The couple will meet with the imam to discuss and verify the necessary conditions for nikah, such as dowry (mahr), presence of a wali, and other requirements.
  3. Appointment Scheduling: Once all conditions are met, an appointment will be scheduled for the nikah ceremony.
  4. Nikah Ceremony: On the date of the ceremony, the marriage contract will be formalized, and a marriage certificate will be provided to the couple.
  5. Fees: A $100 fee is required, which goes towards the masjed’s expenses.

Policies:

  • Marriages are only conducted in person; remote ceremonies via phone or internet are not permitted.
  • A pre-marriage meeting with the imam is mandatory to ensure all conditions are met. This may involve a waiting period and necessary paperwork.
  • The imam’s availability will determine the date of the ceremony, so please be flexible when scheduling.
  • Only the imam of Masjed As-Saber is allowed to officiate the nikah. Outside imams or scholars will not be permitted to perform marriages at our masjed.

We take these steps to ensure that the nikah is conducted in accordance with Islamic principles. Please ensure all rules are followed for a smooth and respectful ceremony.
