At the Islamic Center of Portland – Masjed Assaber, we believe that serving our community is an essential part of our faith and values. Through our various initiatives, we strive to uplift those in need and provide support to individuals and families who are going through difficult times. Our community service programs are rooted in compassion and the spirit of giving, inspired by the teachings of Islam.

Annual Ramadan Food Drives

Every year during the blessed month of Ramadan, The Islamic Center of Portland organizes annual food drives to ensure that families in need have access to essential food items. Ramadan is a time of reflection, charity, and support for the less fortunate, and our community comes together to provide:

• Non-perishable food items
• Basic necessities

These drives allow us to distribute food packages to local families and individuals, making sure they have enough to break their fast and celebrate Ramadan with dignity. We encourage all community members to participate in this effort, either by donating food, volunteering their time, or helping with the distribution process.

Financial Assistance Throughout the Year

In addition to our food drives, The Islamic Center of Portland provides one-time financial assistance to those in need throughout the year, depending on the availability of funds. This service is only available to members of Masjid As-Saber and surrounding mosques. Assistance is offered for qualifying expenses such as:

• Utility bills
• Rent payments

Assistance Process

Please note the following important guidelines for financial assistance:

• One-time assistance only: We offer assistance on a one-time basis
• No same-day assistance: Financial assistance is not provided on the same day of request
• Review Process: All assistance requests go through an intensive review process by our Sadaqa Committee. Applicants must first submit an Assistance Form, which must be completed in its entirety for consideration
• Processing Time: The review process may take 5-7 business days. For those requiring urgent assistance, we recommend reaching out to the Islamic Social Services of Oregon State (ISOS) or other local organizations for immediate help

Long-term Support and Guidance

For those who require long-term assistance, The Islamic Center of Portland works closely with Islamic Social Services of Oregon State (ISOS) to connect individuals and families with resources and programs that provide more extensive aid. This includes referrals to:

• Housing assistance programs
• Food security programs
• Job training and placement services

By partnering with ISOS and other local organizations, we ensure that those in need receive comprehensive and sustained support that extends beyond immediate help. Our dedicated team is always available to guide community members toward the resources that best fit their circumstances.
